Need a hearing date, a filing, or a judgment in a Rio Grande County civil case? Start with the clerk of the court that holds the file. A Rio Grande County civil docket tracks every filing and court event in a noncriminal matter, and you can search it by case number, party name, or attorney detail. Colorado's public calendar lists hearing dates well, but the fuller history lives elsewhere. The docket can point you to an official Register of Actions, a judgment, or another filed document kept by the clerk. Some files, especially family, juvenile, or probate records, carry access limits.

Rio Grande County Civil Docket Classes

Every letter in a civil case number tells you two things at once. One is the kind of proceeding. The other is the court level. C means a County Court civil matter, while S marks small claims. At District Court, CV opens a general civil file. DR covers domestic relations, PR probate, and CW water. Combine the year, the class, and the sequence. You get numbers like 2026CV30001, 2026C30001, or 2026S123.

County Court civil jurisdiction tops out at $25,000, according to the Judicial Branch. Jurisdictional amounts can change, though. Current Title 13 and the filing court control.

What a Civil Docket Shows

A calendar result is narrow. It only lists what is scheduled: date, time, estimated duration, public caption representation, case number, hearing type, location, appearance type, and courtroom. The fuller Rio Grande County ROA goes deeper, organizing parties and roles, counsel, accepted filings, service activity, motions, orders, settings, judgment, and disposition. Access depends on the file's class.

Case numberFiling year, civil class, and sequence.
Parties and rolesPublic caption information and roles such as plaintiff, defendant, petitioner, or respondent.
FilingsComplaint or petition, answer, motions, responses, and accepted court documents.
SettingsReturn, case-management, pretrial, motions, trial, or permanent-orders hearings.
OutcomeJudgment, default, dismissal, settlement order, satisfaction, or appeal activity when recorded and public.

Rio Grande County offers no open official viewer for the civil ROA itself. The clerk holds it. That is why the fields above separate calendar data from the ROA rather than blending the two into one product.

Rio Grande County Civil Return Docket

Rio Grande County Court publishes its civil return docket on Wednesdays at 9:00 a.m. A return date marks the deadline to answer or appear after a summons. It is not a trial date. It is not a judgment or ruling either. What a party must actually do comes from the summons and later court notices. A later notice can shift that duty.

Local point: Treat Wednesday’s civil return setting as one step in the Rio Grande County civil docket, then verify any later hearing on the current calendar and notice.

A calendar label like Return Date on Summons answers none of the real questions. Did service hold up? Was an answer filed? Did the court enter an order? The ROA and the filed papers carry that context.

Types of Civil Cases on the Docket

Rio Grande Combined Court splits its civil records across several streams. County Court handles civil matters within its statutory limit plus small claims. District Court takes the rest. Those are general civil cases, domestic relations, probate, and Water Division 3 matters. Protection-order records sit inside the relevant limited case class. That class can carry access limits of its own.

  • County civil claims filed under class C
  • Small claims filed under class S
  • District civil actions filed under class CV
  • Domestic-relations matters filed under class DR
  • Probate matters filed under class PR
  • Water proceedings filed under class CW

Municipal courts play no part in this countywide civil mix. Their dockets stay focused on city-code matters and qualifying municipal traffic cases.

Rio Grande County Civil Docket Timeline

Most civil dockets open the same way. A complaint or petition gets accepted, and a case number is assigned. Summons and service activity come next. From there, an answer, counsel appearances, motions, replies, and judicial orders build the record layer by layer. Case-management deadlines and settings may then lead to trial, permanent orders, settlement, dismissal, or judgment. After judgment, entries can include a satisfaction. They can also list a transcript of judgment, an enforcement step, or a notice of appeal.

Docket flow: Filing › Service › Answer › Motions › Hearing or Trial › Judgment › Post-Judgment Activity

Treat that sequence as a reading aid, not a promise. No Rio Grande County civil docket is required to hit every step. Small claims, probate, domestic, and water matters each move along their own paths.

Settings and Hearings on Civil Dockets

Calendar labels on Rio Grande County civil dockets tell you why a matter is set. They never tell you what the judge decided. A Motions Hearing gives no ruling. A Permanent Orders Hearing gives no order text. A PreTrial Readiness Conference is just a readiness check. A Case Management Conference, by contrast, sorts out issues, deadlines, disclosures, and later settings. Always pair the newest notice with the current calendar.

Asking for a continuance does not cancel your duty to appear. Only an entered order changes a setting. An older ROA entry and the current calendar can disagree. Confirm the newest order first. Call the Clerk of Court if the conflict persists. The Rio Grande County court calendar page walks through the full hearing-date workflow.

Note: A blank Appearance Type field does not permit remote attendance. Use WebEx only when the court's current instructions allow it.

Rio Grande County Civil Docket Rulings

Say a Rio Grande County motion hearing shows up on the civil docket. No ruling appears online. The calendar still did its job. It confirms the setting, not the result. To see what the judge decided, ask the Clerk of Court for the ROA and the written order. Give the clerk the case number, party names, filing year, case type, and Rio Grande location so the docket lookup goes faster.

The statewide Record/Document Request Form covers the civil filings people usually need. You can request an Order for Judgment. A Transcript of Judgment, a Satisfaction of Judgment, or a Protection Order also qualify. Family options include decrees, parenting plans, separation agreements, support orders, and petitions. Probate instruments and a general ROA round out the list.

Rio Grande County Civil Docket Products

A Rio Grande County civil file can hold several distinct products. Picking the wrong one wastes money. The judgment itself is the court's signed decision. A Transcript of Judgment is a statutory clerk record. So do not expect a word-for-word account of any hearing. The certificate of satisfaction, once properly filed, shows the judgment has been paid off. Match the document to your question before you order.

Copy rates on the web request estimator and the printable form do not always match. Before trusting an estimate, confirm page count, certification, retrieval, redaction, and postage with the clerk.

Rio Grande County Civil Docket Payments

Money questions often follow a court order. The official Colorado Judicial Branch collections and payments page lays out the payment and collection channels that can come with a civil or other court obligation.

Rio Grande County civil docket collections and payment information

That financial follow-up sits apart from the case file itself. It never substitutes for the Rio Grande County civil docket, the judgment, or a clerk-certified record.

Rio Grande County Water Civil Dockets

Water Division 3 runs a specialized District Court docket for the Rio Grande Basin. The 12th Judicial District overview says it has handled more than 6,500 water cases since 1969. FY2024 brought 32 filings affecting 103 structures. A public Water Referee WebEx room may appear on a calendar. Still, a virtual-room link does not mean every hearing is open remotely.

For venue, rely on the CW case class, current appearance instructions, and the filing court. Water cases are civil court records like any others. Still, their specialized subject and division matter. A broad party-name search is weaker than a complete case number.

Rio Grande County Civil Docket Requests

The Clerk of Court at Rio Grande Combined Court holds the District and County Court files. Do not confuse this office with the elected Rio Grande County Clerk and Recorder. That office does not supply civil ROAs, judgments, or certified court documents. Walk-in requests go to 925 6th Street, Room 204, Del Norte, Colorado 81132. Hours are weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. per the published schedule. The official court location directory lists 719-657-3394 and RioGrandeClerk@judicial.state.co.us.

Going online is the clearest remote route. Mailing a request, contacting the court directly, or appearing at the counter can also work. Commercial vendors sell index-level, real-time ROA searches under their own terms. But official filed images come only from the court. Colorado Courts E-Filing lets an approved party see accepted documents in that party's own opted-in case. It is not a public repository for unrelated cases.

Archived files may carry real retrieval costs. The web form promises a usual response within three business days absent extenuating circumstances. The printable form says to allow three to five business days.

Public Access to Civil Dockets

Access to Colorado court records runs through Chief Justice Directive 05-01. It sorts records into security levels such as Public, Protected, Restricted, Suppressed, and Sealed. So a public calendar entry can be visible. A filing may wait on clerk review or redaction. Domestic-relations and probate matters may hold protected information. Juvenile records answer to separate statutory limits.

Access framework:

Chief Justice Directive 05-01 controls access to case records by security class, statute, rule, and court order.

C.R.S. § 19-1-304 places special confidentiality and disclosure rules on juvenile records.

Colorado’s Title 24 access laws govern other public and justice records, while Judicial Branch case files principally remain under CJD 05-01.

A blank result in a Rio Grande County civil docket search does not mean no case exists. Recheck the venue, class, spelling, filing year, current-setting status, and access category. If the public calendar still cannot resolve it, ask the clerk for the ROA or the named document.
