How to Search the Del Norte Court Docket
Begin with whatever paper names the case. The caption or citation may point to a Del Norte municipal matter. Work through the official Town of Del Norte channel. The town publishes no online docket portal, judge listing, session schedule, or payment form. For a Rio Grande County Court or District Court case, use the county 53 Docket Search instead.
Remember what the state site gives you. It is a hearing calendar only. There is no full Register of Actions and no filed documents. When your Del Norte search needs the official case record, turn to the Clerk of Court.
- Identify the exact court named on the Del Norte citation, summons, or notice.
- Use the town’s official contact route for a municipal-code or city-filed traffic matter.
- Use county 53 for a Rio Grande County or District Court setting.
- Match the complete case number, hearing type, location, appearance type, and courtroom.
- Ask the filing clerk for the ROA or named document when the calendar is not enough.
Del Norte Court Docket County Seat
Del Norte serves as the Rio Grande County seat. Inside the Rio Grande County Courthouse at 925 6th Street, Room 204, the Rio Grande Combined Court runs the state docket. The public counter handles both District Court and County Court files on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. It closes only for state holidays. So anyone needing ROAs, pleadings, orders, judgments, or certified copies of state court records goes there in person.
| Del Norte office | Record role | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| Combined Court, Room 204 | Judicial Department clerk | District and County Court case files |
| Town contact | Municipal channel | Town-code or qualifying municipal citations |
| County Clerk and Recorder | County administrative office | Elections, recording, and motor vehicles, not court ROAs |
Sharing a town does not merge these offices. A Del Norte town citation never becomes a County Court case just because the courthouse sits nearby.
For scale, the January 2025 district overview counts 512 District Court filings and 1,447 County Court filings in FY2024. That is 1,959 combined. County filings ran roughly 2.83 times the District total. Those figures measure the county courts based in Del Norte, not a municipal caseload and not a count of town residents.
The Del Norte Municipal Court
A Del Norte municipal court file covers city-code matters and certain locally filed traffic cases. The municipal clerk keeps that city record. The town discloses no public online case portal. There is no judge listing, no docket day, hearing hour, citation-number format, payment system, or filing total. Trust the issuing-court information on your citation and reach the town through its official channel.
State cases take a different path even when the incident happened inside town limits. State misdemeanors, state traffic matters, and felony complaints follow the jurisdiction their papers show. So do civil claims and District Court cases. The court name on a document routes you better than the place name ever will.
Del Norte Courthouse Docket History
The Rio Grande County Museum courthouse history follows the court site from an 1884 purpose-built courthouse. A long replacement effort followed. Construction started in 1939, using native stone and nearly 100 workers. Offices moved into the unfinished building in 1942. Wartime shortages stalled the work. Crews returned in 1949, and a 1954 cornerstone event led to formal dedication.
That official history grounds the building in real Del Norte context. Today the court docket operates out of Room 204. Statewide tools supply the online calendar and electronic filing.
The story also clarifies the offices. "Town Hall," "county clerk," and "court clerk" are not interchangeable, and the Judicial Branch clerk serves as the current case-record custodian for state files.
Del Norte Court Dates and Settings
For state cases, the county 53 Docket Search lists the scheduled date, start time, estimated duration, public caption representation, case number, hearing type, location, appearance type, and courtroom. A date alone will not run the search. Pair it with at least one more filter. A known number breaks into a four-digit filing year, case class, and sequence.
| Date and time | The current public setting, subject to later court change. |
|---|---|
| Duration | An estimate, not a promise of when the proceeding will end. |
| Hearing type | The purpose of the setting, not proof of a ruling. |
| Location and courtroom | Rio Grande County and the listed room or functional assignment. |
| Appearance type | Virtual only when the result or court instruction says so. |
Rio Grande County Court sets civil return dates for Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. Treat that date as an answer or appearance milestone, not a trial date. For a Del Norte municipal setting, confirm directly with the municipal source, since the town publishes no official calendar.
Del Norte Court Docket Search Codes
Colorado case numbers stack the year, class letters, and a sequence. CR flags a District Court criminal case. M and T mark County Court misdemeanor and traffic files. C and S cover County Court civil and small-claims matters. District Court civil, domestic-relations, probate, and water cases carry CV, DR, PR, and CW. That gives examples like 2026CR123, 2026M123, and 2026CV30001.

No official Del Norte entry-code manual exists. Skip invented abbreviations and use full event labels such as Status Conference, Motions Hearing, Return Date on Summons, or Sentencing Hearing.
Del Norte Traffic Tickets
Start with the court name printed on the ticket. A Del Norte municipal citation stays in the municipal channel. It leaves only if it is lawfully transferred or appealed. A state citation filed in Rio Grande County Court can show up in county 53. The Colorado Judicial Online Payment portal may accept it. The portal searches by court location plus case number, ticket number, or name. It does not cover every town ticket.
What you can do depends on what was cited. Colorado civil-infraction rules allow certain pre-appearance penalty assessments. You qualify when you sign a waiver and admit the infraction. Contest the matter and it moves through the court process. The issuing clerk controls fine schedules and options, since Del Norte posts no local schedule.
For county-level citation records and payment distinctions, see Rio Grande County traffic court records. Paying at the county level does not settle a Del Norte municipal balance.
Del Norte Court Docket Clerk Requests
The Clerk of Court at Rio Grande Combined Court handles the state-file route for Del Norte records. You can request an ROA, complaint, order, judgment, or any other named item. Bring the full case number when you can. Without one, give a party name, an approximate year, the case type, and the Rio Grande location. Ask for a plain, certified, or exemplified copy depending on your need.
For remote requests, the state Record/Document Request Form is the clearest channel. It takes case identifiers, party information, document choices, and a certification request. You can also call 719-657-3394, email RioGrandeClerk@judicial.state.co.us, mail a letter, or visit the Room 204 counter.
Fees are set by what you ask for. A nonparty name search including an ROA runs $5. Certification or exemplification is $20 per document plus copy costs. Archived files can add actual retrieval charges. The official web and printable fee lists disagree on some copy charges. Confirm rates with the clerk before you pay.
Timing varies a little by format. The web form promises a usual response within three business days absent extenuating circumstances. The printable version asks for three to five business days. Extensive research or redaction is billed at $30 per hour in quarter-hour increments after the first hour. Postage and off-site retrieval costs may also apply. For a large or archived Del Norte file, request an estimate up front.
A hearing transcript goes down a different road. The 12th Judicial District uses JDF 4 and a transcript coordinator. Its policy generally does not offer routine audio duplication. A Transcript of Judgment is something else entirely. It records a judgment for civil purposes. It does not reproduce words spoken in court. Name the product you need at the start. Your Del Norte record request will land in the right channel.
Where Del Norte Cases End Up
Municipal cases stay with the Del Norte municipal custodian unless appealed or transferred. Rio Grande County Court handles state misdemeanors, traffic matters, limited civil cases, small claims, protection orders, and early felony proceedings. District Court takes felonies, major civil, domestic-relations, juvenile, probate, and Water Division 3 matters.
Docket flow: Del Norte Municipal Court › Rio Grande County Court › District Court
The sequence shows court levels, not a mandatory path for every case. A federal filing runs on a separate system entirely. The official PACER fee announcement belongs to that federal docket context.
That page marks a boundary. PACER covers federal cases, not Del Norte municipal or Rio Grande state court records.
Del Norte Drug Court Docket
The regional problem-solving program serving Del Norte is the 12th Judicial District Adult Drug Court. It spans the six-county San Luis Valley district. It is not a separate Del Norte municipal docket. Search a public setting through the underlying criminal number, subject to court-record access rules. Treatment and clinical details should not be assumed public. The Judicial Branch's Adult Drug Court accreditation announcement supplies the official program context.
That page confirms a districtwide program. It creates no separate Del Norte search portal and discloses no private treatment facts.
Public Access to Del Norte Court Records
State case files held in Del Norte follow Chief Justice Directive 05-01 above all. Security levels run from Public through Protected, Restricted, Suppressed, and Sealed. A public hearing may appear online. A filed document may still require clerk review, identification, or redaction. Juvenile and protected family material carries added limits.
Access rules:
Chief Justice Directive 05-01 governs Judicial Branch case records by security class, statute, rule, and court order.
Colorado Title 24 contains criminal justice and open-record laws, while court case files chiefly use CJD 05-01.
C.R.S. § 19-1-304 governs special juvenile-record confidentiality and disclosure limits.
Judicial Branch administrative records follow a different rule than case records. The March 2025 PAIRR amendment page documents that administrative-record framework.
That page separates an administrative request from a Del Norte case-file request. A court pleading or ROA still follows the case-record route.
Del Norte Court Docket Verification
A solid Del Norte lookup ends with the clerk who created the record. Use the town contact for a municipal file. Use the Rio Grande clerk for a County or District Court ROA, filing, judgment, or certification. Confirm any state hearing against the current Docket Search and the newest notice. A blank appearance field is not permission to join by WebEx.
When a search comes back empty, check spelling, case class, year, current-setting status, court level, and whether the matter is municipal. Then file the record request form with approximate identifiers. A missing result may mean the wrong venue, an old file, no scheduled event, or restricted access, not the absence of a Del Norte court record.
