The Rio Grande County Court Calendar
Colorado's own Colorado Judicial Branch Docket Search for Rio Grande County is the free starting point. No account is needed. It runs on county code 53. It lists scheduled events for both the Rio Grande District Court and Rio Grande County Court, so it answers the basic question of when and where a hearing is set. It will not show every filing. Nor will it show full charge or claim detail, a final disposition, or document images.
The Clerk of Court at Rio Grande Combined Court holds the trial-court files. Those files serve both levels. District Court calendars cover felonies, major civil cases, domestic relations, juvenile, probate, and water matters. County Court calendars handle misdemeanors, traffic, small claims, protection orders, and civil claims within that court's jurisdiction. Municipal ordinance cases and locally filed traffic matters stay with the issuing town court. They move elsewhere only if a later proceeding transfers them.
Rio Grande County Court Calendar Filters
The Rio Grande County court calendar lets you search one date. It also allows a range of up to six months. A date alone is not enough, though. The screen requires at least one more filter. Keep Rio Grande County as the location, and add a case number, party, attorney, court type, or division. A narrow date window also cuts the risk of grabbing a similar name instead of the right case.
Key search rule. Pair the date with at least one other filter, and match the complete case number before relying on a result.
Printable Version and Export Results can save a working list of hearings. A saved list is only a snapshot, and a setting can still change. Check the live docket again close to the hearing.
Rio Grande County Court Calendar Volume
The official 12th Judicial District overview counts 1,959 trial-court filings in Rio Grande County for fiscal year 2024. County Court filings far outnumbered District Court filings. That mix is why a single day can hold traffic, misdemeanor, civil, felony-complaint, and other limited-jurisdiction settings while District Court works through a different set of cases.
Filings are not hearings. One case can generate several calendar events. Still, the counts show why a case number and court type identify a docket entry better than a party name alone.
How to Find Your Court Date
Begin with the most recent court paper. It names the court and often gives the case number that separates one Rio Grande County court date from another. From there, use whatever channel it takes to confirm the setting still stands.
- Read the newest notice or order and identify whether the matter is in District Court, County Court, or a municipal court.
- Search the official county-filtered Docket Search with a short date range plus the case number, party, or attorney field.
- Match the full case number and record the date, time, duration, hearing type, location, appearance type, and courtroom.
- For remote court, check the Rio Grande virtual courtroom page only after the calendar or order identifies the right proceeding.
- If the result is missing, unclear, or recently changed, call Rio Grande Combined Court at 719-657-3394 or email RioGrandeClerk@judicial.state.co.us.
- At the courthouse, ask the clerk's counter about the current calendar or posted docket. The official local page does not state where a printed calendar is posted, so confirm before travel.
If you have a lawyer, ask that attorney too. For a town-issued citation, contact the municipal clerk named on the paper. A county calendar search cannot replace the town's own docket.
Rio Grande County Virtual Court Calendar
Appearance Type is its own field on the calendar. When it reads VIRTUAL, follow the current court instruction to reach the assigned WebEx room. Rio Grande County posts public-capacity rooms for certain domestic relations, advisement, and water proceedings. A room link does not mean every hearing is open to remote attendance, though.
- VIRTUAL
- The result designates a remote appearance; follow the order and assigned room details.
- Blank appearance field
- No remote authority is shown. Treat the hearing as in person until the court confirms otherwise.
- Courtroom
- The assigned room or functional calendar label, separate from the county location.
- Location
- The court location shown by the search, such as Rio Grande County.
Never choose a WebEx link from memory of a judge's name or a past appearance. The newest order and the current setting control.
Reading a Court Setting
A Rio Grande County court calendar result card holds the practical fields you need for an appearance. Read them together. No single field should be stretched past its stated purpose.
| Date and time | The scheduled start. Recheck close to court because the time can move. |
|---|---|
| Duration | An estimate in minutes or hours, not a promise of when the matter will end. |
| Case number | The year, case-class letters, and sequence used to confirm the right matter. |
| Hearing type | The event label, such as Status Conference, Motions Hearing, or Sentencing Hearing. |
| Location | The trial-court location. This differs from the courtroom and appearance method. |
| Appearance type | May state VIRTUAL. A blank entry does not grant remote access. |
| Courtroom | The room number or functional calendar assignment shown for the event. |
| Judge | Not part of the inspected result inventory; use the court order or staff directory when needed. |
The free listing stops short of showing all attorneys, full charge detail, filed papers, or disposition. Those live elsewhere. You will find them in the Register of Actions or the case file.
Under Chief Justice Directive 05-01, remote access and courthouse access need not match. A calendar line can be visible online. The document behind it may still require clerk review, redaction, or restricted access.
Rio Grande County Court Calendar Terms
A calendar label tells you the purpose of a setting, not the outcome of the case. Use the full words the Colorado portal shows rather than invented abbreviations.
- Advisement or First Hearing
- An early event addressing allegations, rights, and next steps.
- Status Conference
- A progress review that may address discovery, readiness, plea, or scheduling.
- Motions Hearing
- A setting for argument or evidence on a filed request for a ruling.
- Return Filing of Charges
- A check on whether or how charges were filed after an initial matter.
- Sentencing Hearing
- The penalty or order stage after a plea or conviction, not the conviction record by itself.
- Case Management Conference
- A civil or domestic setting for issues, deadlines, disclosures, and later hearings.
Review Hearing, Disposition Hearing, Appearance of Counsel, and PreTrial Readiness Conference also appear in the live system. For context, read the notice or the Register of Actions.
Resets, Continuances, and Cancellations
Schedules shift, and the docket has words for it. A continuance postpones an event; a reset is the new date that replaces it. The Register of Actions may still hold an old notice beside a later minute order. The public Rio Grande County court calendar, by contrast, aims to carry the active hearing list. So read with care. An old entry does not mean the case was dismissed. A missing old date alone proves no cancellation.
Start with the newest dated court order. Then set it against the current Docket Search result. A motion to continue, once filed, excuses nothing. Only the court's order changes your duty to appear. Weather, a same-day conflict, or an unclear reset is a reason to call the clerk or coordinator. Reach them through the official Rio Grande Combined Court contact page.
Note: A stale Register of Actions entry should not override a newer court order. Nor should it override the clerk's confirmation of the active setting.
Rio Grande County Civil Court Calendar
Civil return dates in Rio Grande County Court come out on Wednesdays. They post at 9:00 a.m. A return date marks an answer or appearance milestone. It is not automatically a trial date. The hearing may simply sort out whether a response was filed. It also settles what step comes next.
That local rule is the key to reading a result labeled Return Date on Summons. Match the case number first. Then check the newest papers. Do not assume witnesses or trial proof are due just because the word "return" appears. The official Rio Grande County court page carries the published return schedule.
Rio Grande County Appellate Court Calendars
A win or loss at the Rio Grande County trial court does not carry its calendar upward. The appeal runs on its own schedule, and the Colorado Supreme Court's official page shows the state's court of last resort, which sits above the Rio Grande trial courts entirely.
That official page marks the boundary between appellate business and the Rio Grande County hearing search you would use for a local District or County Court date. A state appeal is a different track. The Colorado Court of Appeals page covers the intermediate level that reviews trial-court rulings before any Supreme Court review.
Appeals build their own record and their own calendar. The trial-court Register of Actions stays where it was. So read the court named on the notice of appeal first, then search that court's docket rather than the Rio Grande County one.
Rio Grande County Court Calendar Duration
Treat a listed duration as a rough estimate, never a set appointment. Hearings start late all the time. An earlier matter may run long. The court may block several cases together. Or a preliminary issue may need sorting out. A short block also tells you nothing about how complex the underlying case really is.
Follow the court's instructions over the estimated end time. If timing creates a genuine access problem, ask the clerk about an accommodation. Raise it before the hearing. The online Rio Grande County court calendar promises no exact start or finish minute.
Rio Grande County Court Calendar Checks
A docket can shift for many reasons. Weather, holidays, and continuance requests all move Rio Grande County hearings. So check late. Reopen the live result and confirm the case number matches. Then look for any newer order. When the fields disagree, the clerk gives the final answer. Rio Grande Combined Court sits at 925 6th Street, Room 204, Del Norte, Colorado 81132. Its counter is open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. It closes on state holidays.
Skip the trip if you only want to test for a public computer. The local material promises no terminal and names no location for one. Call ahead instead. Do so when terminal use, disability access, a large file, or an urgent same-day problem matters.
What To Do If You Miss a Setting
A missed Rio Grande County court date calls for fast action. Pull up the current calendar and the newest order first. If you have counsel, make that call. Ask the Clerk of Court without a lawyer. Ask what the record shows and what process now applies. Never assume the court simply reset the case.
Missed a setting? A missed hearing may lead to a default or other case-specific court action, depending on the type of matter.
Call Rio Grande Combined Court promptly and seek advice from a Colorado lawyer about the safest way to address the missed date.
Legal advice: The clerk can report what the calendar and record contain but cannot advise you. A licensed attorney can weigh the effect of the missed appearance.
